College Football - Michigan State Got the Message in an Away Game - Just Win, Baby, Just Win
Most football game teams, even poor ones, can play like a victor at place even if they have got not won on the route in two years. So when a Big 10 rival wins on the road, you have got to make a dual return and wonder, how far could they progress toward a major bowl game?
This pretty well depicts Wolverine State State's recent (9-27-08) 42-29 triumph on the route against the Hoosier State Hoosiers. The Spartans won the first one-half 27-22 and won the 2nd one-half 15-7. They scored in every one-fourth and close out Hoosier State in the 4th quarter.
Michigan State faced some hardship and overcame it. Late in the 3rd one-fourth Hoosier State came up with a 97-yard touchdown base on balls that appeared to set the Hoosiers in the lead, but their right guard was called for holding in the end zone, giving the Spartans a safety and a 36-29 lead.
After adding a couple of 4th one-fourth field ends by Brett Swenson, MSU left with a well-earned 42-29 route win. Give some props to Swenson, who successfully kicked 4 field ends from 45, 48, 45 and 32 yards. An accurate long kicker is critical to success in major bowl games.
In a game that was not decided at the end of the 3rd quarter, there were 2 safeties, a blocked Irish pound and 3 rematch reviews. None of it mattered as much as the Spartans 4th sequent triumph with star running play back Javon Toller averaging 204 paces rushing in the 4 wins.
Ringer had so much running success coming in that Hoosier State sought to restrict his yardage, forcing him to transport the ball 44 modern times for 198 yards. You could hardly name that containment. When it really mattered in the last quarter, it was Toller running play clip after time, eating up the clock and preserving the border of victory.
Ringer also scored another rushing touchdown and now have 12. He goes on to take the state in rushing TDs.
Brian Hoyer had some dropped bases on balls by receiving systems (one of which was an easy touchdown), but still ended up going 14-of-26 for 261 yards, including an 82-yard scoring base on balls to Charlie Gantt. Hoyer also scored a rushing TD on a 1-yard plunge.
Indiana did Pb the game 7-6 at one point, but was no lucifer for the Spartans when pushing came to shove.
Next up for Wolverine State State is a homecoming game against Ioway on Saturday.
The Spartans, now 4-1, have got got not broken into the AP Top 25 Poll but have moved up to 27th topographic point with lone Old Line State and 25th topographic point Aftermath Forest between them and the 25th spot. Should they beat out Ioway and Northwestern the adjacent two weeks, their opportunities of making the Top 25 are excellent.
Michigan State fans are just beginning to see what a great hire caput manager Mark Dantonio have been. Like Uncle Tom Izzo in basketball game and Walt Drenth in cross-country and path & field, Dantonio is a victor who can take the Spartans to a national championship. Preps in Wolverine State are beginning to believe of Wolverine State State first now rather than the Wolverine State Wolverines.
